A Profound Sense of Place — The Concept of Terroir:
It has often been said that great wines are made in the vineyard. Winegrowers and winemakers wax lyrically about the terroir of their vineyards, but what exactly does terroir mean and why do wine enthusiasts care? The French term "terroir" doesn't have a literal translation and the common interpretation is "sense of place," but it means much more than that.
In this wine tasting seminar we will explore the concept of terroir from the ground up with examples of how small differences in place can have profound impacts on the resulting wines, especially Pinot Noir, which has a well established reputation for reflecting terroir in profound and exciting ways.
