Lingua Franca was inspired by an extraordinary vineyard site in the Eola-Amity Hills of the Willamette Valley. Our name represents a fine tradition of universal language, bringing people of different worlds to common ground – shared conversation, shared enjoyment.
All of our work is guided by respect for the environment, encouraging healthy diversity of life around and among us. We follow sustainable farming practices animated by biodynamic principles. Our winemaking methods are traditional, and we work with a light hand. We do not conform to a predetermined style, but allow the flavors and aromas of the place to express themselves in each bottling. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or inquiries.
Our just-completed winery was designed by the Portland architectural firm of Laurence Ferar & Associates in collaboration with Dominique Lafon, Thomas Savre, and Larry Stone. It is a winemaker’s winery in layout, with special features from crush pad to bottling line that ensure economy of effort all year round.
Within a few months of becoming the ninth Master Sommelier in the United States, Larry Stone became the first American to win the prestigious Best International Sommelier in French Wines competition in Paris. He continued as a restaurateur and sommelier at the Four Seasons, Charlie Trotter’s, and Rubicon Restaurant.
David earned his law degree from the University of Chicago and based his practice in SF for 25 years, earning a place in America's Best Lawyers. Over the last two decades he has amassed a well-chosen collection of wines, invested in wine distribution and in a winery in Napa. Lingua Franca represents the culmination of his long friendship with Larry Stone and his passion for the culinary arts.
Thomas is among the most accomplished and energetic young winemakers in Oregon. He joined Lingua Franca from his prior position as Assistant Winemaker, Enologist and Assistant Vineyard Manager at Evening Land, where he worked closely with Dominique Lafon to create superb Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Seven Springs Vineyards, directly adjacent to Lingua Franca.
Best known as the namesake, director, and winemaker of one of the great estates of Meursault, Dominique is a descendant of Jules Lafon, who created the revered wine festival, La Paulée. After taking over the family domaine in the 80s, Dominique revitalized its red and white winemaking approach.
